Appliance Commissioning

When a boiler is installed either as a new installation or as a replacement the appliance must be commissioned to comply with current building regulations. This must be carried out by a qualified and competent engineer.
The purpose of commissioning is to check and certify that the installation complies with building regulations and that the boiler is set up to burn exactly how the manufacturer intends it to.
Our commission inspection makes sure all pipe work and flues are installed correctly as well as checking the combustion chamber and baffles in case of movement in transit, making sure all safety valves have been fitted (where applicable) and that the pressures and combustion levels on the burner have been set correctly.

 Appliance Servicing

Like most working products, servicing is a tried and tested way of keeping a product working cleanly and smoothly during its working life.
Boilers and Agas are no different. In most cases a service can help extend the life of a boiler or cooker and help it burn at its most efficient, giving you both piece of mind that you have a safe appliance as well as knowing that it's running as efficiently as possible.
As well as checking immediate appliance controls and the oil tank, a service comprises of a full clean of the appliance, removing soot and sulphur deposits which form through combustion in the combustion chamber. We then clean the burner (the main engine), check all the parts for smooth operation and replace any parts if necessary, we then light or fire the boiler and carry out a combustion test (where applicable), setting it up to burn as efficiently as possible.
We then leave a full service sheet with a printout of the combustion test results for your records.
We also send out Service Reminder Cards at the scheduled service intervals to remind you when your next service is due.

Gas fired systems
Acc no 9166

  • Gas Safe registered
  • Full gas safety checks
  • Avoid expensive breakdowns
  • Maximise fuel efficiency and reduce bills
  • All necessary certificates provided
  • Commercial and Domestic
  • Fully insured
  • Friendly & reliable
  • No obligation quotations
Sporadic or no servicing means that your boiler is liable to suffer a breakdown, which apart from being a real inconvenience, could prove very costly in repairs. A regular service will also ensure that the likelihood of carbon monoxide incidents are next to zero, but as importantly the improved fuel efficiency will reduce your fuel bills.

Oil fired systems
Acc no C1618

  • General maintenance & servicing
  • Repairs & breakdowns
  • Installations & Commissions
  • Replacements
  • Oil tank installations and replacements
  • Unvented hot water installation, replacement, maintenance and servicing
  • Install complete oil-fired heating systems
Having an oil fired boiler serviced regularly can keep it operating at its most efficient. This reduces fuel bills and saves money on costly call-out fees for unexpected breakdowns. OFTEC recommends that oil fired appliances and equipment are serviced at least once a year or as recommended by the manufacturer.

There are many reasons why the efficiency of an oil fired boiler could be reduced. Here are a few:
Excessive smoke and partially burnt fuel deposits can cause soot to form within the boiler heat exchanger, restricting the amount of heat that can be transferred into the heating system water. The cleaner the heat exchanger, the more efficient the boiler will be.
Oil nozzles regulate how much oil passes through the burner. The nozzles are consumable items that wear over time affecting combustion and lowering boiler efficiency. If they are not replaced, they could cause “sooting up” of the heat exchanger due to too much fuel passing through the burner.
Photocells can glaze over with deposits. Photocells are an important safety feature which detect whether the boiler has lit. If a photocell is dirty it may not be able to detect the burner flame correctly and could cause the boiler to shut down randomly. Boilers frequently switching on and off will be less efficient than those running for longer periods.
Electrodes can wear and attract soot and deposits. Electrodes produce a spark to light the fuel, if they are worn or in poor condition the boiler may not light. Again, causing inconvenience, inefficiency and increasing fuel cost.

AGA servicing

It is vital to have your AGA heat-storage cooker serviced regularly to ensure that it performs like a dream, morning, noon and night.
